NO OPEN DOOR.
CANADA AND REFUGEES. LEAGUE CIRCLES SURPRISED. MONTREAL, Jan. 21. “As long as Canada lias an unemployment problem there will be no open door for political refugees,” stated Air F. Rinfret (Secretary of State) to-day. Tlic Government, he said, had decided to maintain the restrictions against European immigration.
The announcement caused surprise at the League of Nations meeting, as it was believed that Canada was actively preparing a programme seeking to admit a limited number of German Jews by settlement of lands throughout the Canadian West.
