CAR'S PLUNGE INTO RIVER.
ONE man drowned. MELBOURNE. Jan. 21. The radio announcer Mr Eric Melch was unable to broadcast the Caulfield races to-day, as was his custom, owing to a sensational motoring experience overnight. He was driving his .ear, accompanied by two companions Messrs Reginald Tonkin and James Kelly, when the vehicle plunged into the River Yarra, near Spencer Street Welch and Tonkin got through the car windows rose to the surface and were rescued by men on the wharf, but Kelly, who was imprisoned in the submerßKl ar vas drowned Messrs Tonkin and tell were nu-mlKirs of the Victoria Racing Chib’s staff.
