CRICKET.

SENIOR COMPETITION. BARLTIIOP AND JAMES BOWL WELL. favoured with glorious sunshine, with a tempering breeze, conditions were ideal for the cricket matches played on .Saturday at Kowhai Park, when new senior games opened between Public Service and Old Boys and Nomads ami Bedding. A feature was Ihe splendid bowling by Barltrop and James, and a good batting efl'orl by G. Packer, who made 88 for Public Service and has still to be accounted for. «His score is the best registered by any player Ibis season in Bedding, and with luck he should have no difficulty in reaching the century mark when the game is resumed. OLD BOVS v. PUBLIC SERVICE. ] Old Boys opened their first innings with Telford and L. Whitehead, but while the latter went on to score 31, the former scored only four. Dewe, who the previous week knocked up a high score, was bowled by Barltrop early in the innings. Williams and Connell contributed very few runs, but Brock and Wells assisted with 22 and 17 respectively. Public Service disposed of Old Boys for 120. Barltrop and Packer being responsible for most of the wickets.

Hart and Bennett, the opening bat: . for Public Service, made 34, whih Packer went on to score 88 and wa: ; J partnered in turn by Liddell. Prine< ; and Barltrop who. between them, hat supplied 36 runs when the stumps wert drawn with the score 180 for the loss of four wickets. Helpful figures were contributed bv Fitzpatrick and Reid, but the remainder of Feilding’s batsmen scored poorly and went down to James’s bowling. For Nomads the only double figure scorers were James, Alonteith and A. Waldin. Carter and Donaldson took three wickets each, while Dunn captured two.
