HELP FROM NEW ZEALAND.
bush fire refugees. FI N DING EMPLOYMENT. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Jan. 21. A determined effort is being made by the timber workers’ organisations in New Zealand, in co-operation with the Sawmillers’ Federation, to find employment in the Dominion for some of the mill-hands and bush-workers who have boon thrown out of work by the recent Victorian bush fires. A cablegram received by Mr F. Craig, secretary of the Auckland Timber '’Workers’ Union, from Mr W. Scanlon, secretary of the Victorian union, in reply to an offer of possible assistance, states that 1000 men in the timber industry in Victoria are unemployed. and asks if it is possible to find jobs for some of these men in New Zealand. The cablegram also says that financial assistance would he much appreciated. It is thought the prospects are good for finding jobs for at least 100 men from Victoria.
