The event was won narrowly by the well-fancied Ruling Spi, from an outsider in Sigurd, who ran his best race to date. ]n fact; had his run been delayed a little it is probable that he would have won, as it was only his weakening after being, in front at the false rail that enabled Ruling Spi to get up. Both horses were always handy to the leaders, the pace Icing made by Red Cat and Capricious, from a well-bunched field, Ruling Spi being on the rails. Sigurd ran to the front at the false rail, and bung on till the very last strides, when Ruling Spi, who bad kept to the rails throughout, got up. Ilinorawe finished very well to get tliird place from Capricious.
