PAHIATUA.

COM P.KNSATION SOUGHT. At Friday’s meeting of the Tararua Klectric Power Board, Mr F. Bidder, of Konini, waited on the hoard to see if it could compensate him for part of his loss through 12 cows being electrocuted when a power line came down across his yard. Mr Ridder said that the greatest loss was caused through the hoard plugging in three times after the break, and not the break caused by the wind. Mr Brechin remarked that in that case the claim was on the Public Works Department, which did the plugging in. Mr Bidder said that he was prepared to call the electrocution of the first two cows due to an act of God. He estimated his loss to be £l2O for the cows, apart from the decrease in the butterfat production. Mr Bidder complimented the employees of the hoard on the assistance they had rendered in removing the cows.

The chairman said that it was the feeling of tile board that they would, if possible, make some contribution for his loss, hut no definite decision could be arrived at yet. There was no legal liability on the part of the hoard, hut they would not stand on that. Every member of the board, he was sure, sympathised with Air Ridder in hi.-, loss. It was decided that the matter be left in the hands of the secretary and chairman to try to arrange some compensation with the insurance office, with power to act, tip to the sum of £SO. The advisability of setting aside a

special fund to meet cases of this kind was discussed, the chairman commenting that this was the first case for 15 years of loss of stock due to broken wires. It was rather a matter of meeting each case individually as it rose.

' NOTES. Yesterday, Pahiatua experienced a perfect day after a long spell of most unpleasant weather. The baths were well patronised, as was the river bank by picnic parties. The secretary-manager of the Tararua Electric Power Board reported to Friday’s meeting that when the plans of the board’s cottages in Eketahuna bad been submitted to the Housing Department certain alterations had been insisted on, an estimate of the cost of which would have to be obtained from the contractor. Mr Brechin, remarking that they must go on with them now, moved that the matter be left in the hands of the chairman and secretary-manager, with power to act. Mr E Jacques was appointed as clerk of works for the construction of the Power Board’s office and showrooms in Pahiatua.

The secretary-manager of the Tararua Electric Power Board (Air W. F. Taylor) reported at the meeting of the board that he had received a letter from the Pahiatua Borough Council asking the board to contribute £5 towards the cost of the Christmas street lighting.
