DRIVER FINED.

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Jan. 20. Described by counsel as a victim of her own good fortune in that she had consumed some liquor after making a profitable investment at the Trentham Races, Tui Amelia Scally, aged 31, a clerk, was dealt with for intoxication in charge of a car to-day. A plea which had more effect with the Magistrate, however, was counsel’s pointing out that she had had no lunch, and the liquor she took did not immediately affect her, as was shown by the fact that she manoeuvred the car from the members’ stand at Trentham, not an easy feat, the liquor apparently having a delayed action, as she did not feel it till on the Hutt Road on the way to Wellington. The Magistrate decided that a fine would meet toe case and imposed £lO. He cancelled the license for twelve months.
