UTUWAI BRANCH PICNIC

The January meeting of tho Utmvai Women’s Institute took the form of a, picnic and was held at the Coal Creek bridge. A motion of sympathy was passed to Mrs Smith and family in their bereavement. Mrs O'Hagan read an interesting paper on ‘‘The Adequate Diet.” Many and varied wore the summer sweets mentioned in the roll-call. Mrs Mclntyre kindly judged the eom|X.*titions, the awards being: Flowers, Mr* O’Hagan 1, Mrs W. Roberts 2, Mrs Billet 3; Christmas rake. Mrs Billet 1. Mrs O’l lagan 2, Mrr» Me F wen 3; miniature garden. Mrs Coup 1, Mrs McEwen 2. It was decided not to enter for the miniature garden competition at the Fcilding Show. Mrs Coup won the travelling competition. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Jensen and Miss Foot. Members decided to ask Mrs Wingate to choose the points prizes, which arc to be presented along with the other prizes at the birthday evening towards the end of the month. The secretary is arranging to get a speaker for the evening, and the seniors arc expected to take charge of the social half-hour. Husbands and friends will be very welcome. Mrs Billet has again kindly consented to make the birthday cake. Member* were reminded that they arc to hand in nominations at the birthday evening for the committee, one for the president and nine for the committee. —Utuwai correspondent.
