Mrs Moxon (Palmerston North) beat j Mrs Ashworth, 26—18. GOOD GAMES SEEN. The pLay was not noticeable for consistent all-round breaks, although some very good games were seen. The outstanding handicap game was that played by the local player, Mrs Mood, who defeated A. j. Gibbs, Patea, the English gold medallist. The lawns are in perfect condition and with the wind not as troublesome,- many first class games are predicted in the Open Championship. The entries closed for the handicap doubles to-day, over forty being received. Play in these doubles is expected to commence on Monday morning. In the second life of the ladies championship, Mrs Bryan met Mrs Connor, *Mrs Bryan, formerly of Palmerston North, played at the top of her form, defeating Mrs Connor, a local plaver with a score of 26—2. With the first hall Mrs Bryan made a splendid round, and although Mrs Connor had a few opportunities later in the game she coula not get going before her opponent had her other ball round also and finished. Ladies’, first life.—Mrs Petrie v. Mrs Leadbeater: Mrs Petrie won the toss and made one point in the turn. In and out play followed fop a short time until Mrs Petrie, collecting the balls, made a good break of 10 going to the rover. Mrs Leadbeater then hit in and made a few points before Mrs Petrie again got control. This player, however, was having difficulty in getting the backward ball round until breaking at No. 6. Mrs Leadlieater missed the shot and Mrs Petrie then carried her clip to 4 back, where in making the Loop found the balls wired and elected to retire to the oast boundary. Mrs Leadbeater did not actthe shot and Mrs Petrie hit the line ball and made rover. In the next turn she made the remaining four points in the one turn and finished, the score ending 26—9. Ladies’ Championship, second life.— Miss Watkins v. Mrs'Frost: In and out play constituted the game at the commencement, until Mrs Watkins, collecting the balls, made a perfect break of nine, winning at the finish. Mrs Frost shot in and made four points, after which in and out play followed until Mrs W.Atkins finished, the score being 26—11. Handicap singles.—Mrs Wood (Palmerston North) v. A. J. Gibbs (Patea) : The local player won tne toss and, setting out the balls for a bieak, was compelled to use a bisque, which assistance resulted in a break of seven. Gibbs failed to hit in and Mrs Wood, again playing carefully, made a break of six. Her opponent here got the shot in and scored one point, but failed at the hoop Mrs Wood then completed the break to the peg. Gibbs then got control and made several points, when Mrs Wood again hit in and finished with the other ball, but the long shot was again hit, and Gibbs finished to the peg, wiring his opponent from all halls except one, which she hit and finished, the score being 26—13. Handicap Singles—Mrs Clark v. Mrs Morgan: A good finish was witnessed in this game. Mrs Morgan with one ball on the peg and the other on rover, and with Mrs Clark’s clips on rover, and 4 back, failed at rover, when her opponent shot in, peeled and pegged out Mrs Morgan’s ball. Mrs Clark succeeded in making the remaining five points before her opponent could shoot in, the game ending 26 —24.
