RANGITIKEI.
MARTON, Dec. 24. Mrs W. Lewis, of Turakina, has celebrated the 93rd anniversary of her birthday. There were a large number of relatives present at a party, when good wishes were extended to her. Mrs Lewis brought up a family of nine; there are 34 grand children, 61 greatgrand children, and one great-great-grand-daughter. Mr Lewis passed away several years ago. Mr and Mrs J. B. Johnstone left yesterday for Wellington en route to Melbourne and Sydney. The Rangitikei County Council engineering and clerical staffs made a farewell presentation to Mr C. F. Marshall-Smith, who has been assistant-engineer for the past four years, and who has been appointed engineer to the Borough Council. There was a good attendance at the annual ceremony to mark the conclusion of the educational year of the Huntley School. Mr R. P. Sherriff, the principal, said : “Signs are not lacking that the work of the school is very satisfactory and is improving. This year a new nomenclature for forms has been adopted, ranging from Form VI down to Form I.” Prizes were presented as follow: Form I, J. T. W. Hogg, I. P. Jameson. Form 11, R. J. Fastwick. Form Hi; I. B. Spiers, T. N. H. Barton. Form IV, A. S. Paterson, P. R. Gaddum. Form V, J. B. Marsh, P. L. R Abraham, D. Peat. Form VI, P. S. Frey berg. Form VI, Special dux, D. A. Calclow; merit, K. M. Ewen. Mrs D Simpson’s for history, J: D. Stout. Mr Rix-Trott’s for composition, P. S. Freyberg. Mr Clarkson’s for keenness and improvement, W. M. E. Tweed. Exhibition for music, H. C. G. Kemp. Mrs R. P. Sherriff’s for music, W. E. Shield. Special, singing, D. A, Caldow. Arthur Fitzherbert’s for singing, H. B G. Hadfield. Miss Barker’s for dancing K M. Ewen. Headmaster’s for head prefect, K. M. Ewen. Arthur Sherriff Memorial (Mrs A. A. Sherriff s prize), awarded to the boy who has most worthily upheld the honour of the school, K. M. Ewen. Sports prizes, D. E L Collins won all the cricket and football trophies, and was the best allround athlete. Sixty-four years of valuable service t.> the community terminated when parents, students and old pupils gathered for the breaking-up ceremony of the Upper Tutaenui School. The school has been closed down in favour of the consolidation scheme. The children o this area will be conveyed to the Marton District High School by bus m future To commemorate the occasion, each child attending the school was handed a special certificate. Each pupil was given a bag of sweets, these being donated by Mrs R. Hammond. Later in the evening the prizes were distri-
buted by Mrs C. Stafford. The chairman of the committee, in,making the presentation of a chromium clock and barometer to the headmaster (Mr J. A. Snell) thanked him for the assistance. Mi Snell has been appointed to the Beaconßfield School,
