ATHLETIC MEETING.
KIA TO A CLUB. The weekly sports meeting of the Kia Toa Athletic Club was held at the Sportsground last evening. There was a cold westerly wind blowing and a soft track, which militated against fast times for the events. It. Kay proved equal to winning the sprint event, but he only just beat Barraud and Synott, who ran a dead heat for second place. There were only inches between all the runners in the final of the sprint Mrs Rollerson again proved too strong for the other runners in the women’s events. She won both the 73 yards and 100 yards with comparative a Al'though the field was not large in the 880 yards race, C. McVicar ran an excellent race to beat Scott, the pacemaker, overhauling him soon after entering the straight. A relay race was also run. The winning team was comprised of Miss A. Wilson, Temperton, Lang, Carpenter and Crawford.
The results are as follow: 75 yards.—First heat: C. Barraud 1, D. Buick 2, V. Rankin 3; time, 10 1-5 sec. Second heat: R. Kay 1, B. Synott 2. H. Carpenter 3; time, 10 l-ssec.
