WARWICK STAKES, of £6000; weight-for-age, with allowances. Seven furlongs. v STRETTO (Bartle) 1 GOLD ROD (McCarten) 2 ROY AT, CHIEF (O’Sullivan) 3 All started. Stretto was the pacemaker when the field settled down from . Buzzalong, King’s Head, Gold Rod, and Royal Chief. Gold Rod challenged Stretto as they neared the post, but Stretto held him off to win by a neck, with Royal Chief a length away third. Time, 1.264. Roorua was unplaced in the Ilobartville Stakes, won by Aeolus from Pandava, and Braidwood Boy was unplaced in the Spring Handicap. WILLIAMSTOWN RACES. UNDERWOOD STAKES TO AJAX. MELBOURNE, Aug. 28. Great interest attached to the race owing to the meeting oT Ajax and The Trump, but Ajax took charge at the end of a furlong and was never head« 3. The Trump finished 6ixth. A length and three-quarters; a length and a-quarter. Time, 1.42.
