COAL MINE DISPUTE.
OWNERS WILL NOT YIELD. SYDNEY, Aug. 26. Mr Justice Canton, of the Industrial Commission, had an informal talk with the coal miners’ representatives and the colliery proprietors to-day in regard to their dispute. . , The coal mine owners indicated that they were not prepared to yield to the recent threats of a general strike, nor to concede any - claims made by the Miners’ Federation. The conference lasted for only a few minutes. In the stay-in strike at present occurring at the Broken Hill r °" prietary’s Lambton B colliery at Newcastle, 47 miners have already remained below ground fori 48 hours, and have received some food secretly sent down by sympathisers. The dispute arose over the employment of an alleged inexperienced coal loader.
