FIRM VALUES FOR SHEEP. j DAIRY CATTLE MARKET BRIGHTER J The Feilding stock sale was held yesterr day in fine, but cold weather. There was - a good attendance. fc FAT CATTLE. The few pens of bullocks offered in the - fat cattle section sold at good competition, ? Messrs F. S. Mcßcth and E. C. Wicks bcc ing the principal vendors. Cows also sold r at firm rates. Among the sales effected . were the following:—Two bullocks offered , by F. S. Mcßeth, -£lO 17s 6d, two at £lO, i one each at £8 10s. £6 17s 6d, and £5 17s 6d. On account E. G. Wicks, six Holstein bullocks. £9 17s 6d, and one rose to £l3 10s. C. L. Williams disposed of aline of fat cows at prices ranging as follow: £5, £6 2s 6d, £6 10s, £7, £7 ss, £7 17s 6d. £8 2s 6d, £8 7s 6d. C. ,M. W. E. Hills secured £lO 7s 6cl for a cow close to profit and for several other lines offered on the same account the prices obtained wore £7 15s. £8 10s and £9 7s 6d. J. W. Thurston secured £7 15s and £ll 5s for two springing cows. VV. E. Weightman realised £ll 15s for a pedigree Jersey cow. £lO 10s was paid for a springing cow offered by Mrs A. M. Sandilands. There was a considerable yarding of wether and ewe hoggets, and for the best quality pens offered prices were on a par with recent quotalions. Vendors of particularly 'good wether hoggets placed higher values on the offerings than the buyers were prepared to give. In .most in- ' stances, however, private arrangements were made. Very few in-lamb ewes or owes with lambs at foot were offered. Ewe and Wether Hoggets.—A pen of 50 wether hoggets on account P. Mitchell, Colyton, realised 19s 6d, while a pen of 84 similar sheep on account Mr Marshall, Parana, made 18s Id. T. R. Price, Levin, accepted 18s for a pen of 57 woolly wether I hoggets. A R .Humphrey secured 15s Id for a pen of 50 woolly b.f.'s. and 18s 2d for 44 wethers. C. A. Bi'eLski's (Rangiwaliia) specially advertised woolly wether hoggets made 19s Bd, there being 132 -in the offering. Levin-grown woolly wether hoggets, on account T. R. Price, were passed in at 20s 6d. On account Mr Godfrey, Marton, a pen of 180 woolly ewe hoggets made 26s 9d J 113 ewe hoggets carrying good heavy coats on account F. Basselt (Colyton), realised 32s Id; while another pen of smaller female hoggels on the same account made 295, there being 93 in the line. D. L. Youngcr's 54 ewe hoggets were sold at 23s 9d. A pen o, ewe hoggets front the Masterton district realised 325; 83 ewe hoggets sold at 27s 3d. E. W. Barne'S secured 20s- 8d„ for a pen of two-tooth wethers, there being 38 in the. offering. A large offering of twotooth wethers on account T. R. Price made 18s and 21s. A. K. Mitchell secured } 32s for a pen of ewe hoggets of good ■ quality. J. A heavy yarding of fat .sheep again come forward, comprised principally of ewes, with just odd pens ' of wethers; the market for ewes was on a par with-last week's rates, wethers on of- ; fer not being up to last week's quality and ' consequently selling at lower rates. Sonic splendid lines' of wooly wether hoggets were on offer, a line 1 from the Pahiatua district be- ■ ing outstanding, being sold for 22s 6d. Mr : T. ft. Price, .of. Levin, also submitted a splendid - line of woolly wether hoggets, for which competition was anything but animated, this line ultimately being sold : at 21s. Although .competition was easier ' for wether the demand for ewe hoggets was equally as keen as was the . case at last week's fixture, goad sound lines selling at over the 30s mark. Cattle: ; Again, we have to report practically no station bred cattle being penned. In the ' fab, cattle section the entry was again comi prised practically of cows and heifers ex i the dairy, for which strong values wore ruling, if anything, being up on last week's rates. A moderate entry of dairy cows and heifers were submitted to a good bench of buyers, values for good quality sorts being up on last week's rates. DISTRICT SALES. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd.. report successful sales at PanKiwahia and Pongotca on Tuesday and Wednesday last. At the Pangiwahia sale a good yarding of wether hoggets came forward and sold at prices in keeping with recent rates. We Quote as under: Wether hoggets, 16a 6d, 17s, 18s 7d. 20s 3d to 20s sd; b.f. hoggets, 13s 4d to 17s. .The number of cattle, and pigs increased considerably on recent yaridngs at the Rongotca sale, and a total clearance was effected at excellent prices. Approximately 100 pigs were offered and met with a brisk sale at prices which, although li6t quite up to the previous excellent sale, were very satisfactory to vendors. Weancr pigs realised from 16s to 255: slips, from 20s to 265; stores, from 27s to 365: and porkers (light), £2 Is. A full yarding of over 50 springing heifers were put through ' the dain,' ring, and the better sorts were keenly sort after, realisations being in advance of the two previous sales. Tho following realisations will give an indication, of the market:—Jersey heifers, well grown and close up, £lO 10s, £ll ss, £ll 15s. £l2 to £l2 ss; Well grown, £9 to £lO ss: medium sized,-£8 to £8'10s: backward medium sized, £6 ss, £6 15s. £7 5s to £7 10=: small. £4 10s._ £5 5s to. £5 10s. There were very few prime cows in the fat, cattle, the bulk of the offering being forward condition paddock cows. Fat cows ex t-ho dairy can be quoted at £5 to £6 17s 6d; forward cow:- at £5 10s to £4, and boner cows at £2 tc £3 13».
