LAUGHING LASS.

SPRINTER VERY FIT. RESUMING AT WANGANUI. (By "Spectator.") Laughing Laes, who is to resume racing at the Wanganui meeting, appears to bo in great order for the spring racing, and has been> galloping very freely at Awapuni. • • A Likely Hurler. Engaged at both Taranaki and Wanganui meetings, In Command is a hurdler who has been schooling well at Hawera. Under Racecall's Colours. Raccaway, a two-year-old colt by Acre from All Amber, and in the same ownership as Racecall, had his first sprint at Hawera this week. A Bruised Foot. Becauso of a. bruised foot, Winsome Lu has been causing her owner some concern of late, and may not start at the New Plymouth meeting next week. In Maiden Event. Half-sister to Tout le ■ Monde, the three-year-old Posterity—Aspic filly Chere Amie, is entered for the maiden event at Wanganui. She had one start last season. Great Bramble Sold. Sir Charles Clifford has sold the four-year-old mare Great Bramble to the West Coast owner, Mr C. S. Walton, for whom A- McMullan will train her at Riccarton. Team for Auckland. The Woodville trainer F.' Davis has booked accommodation for four horses for th 3 Avondale spring meeting next month. The team will probably consist of Francis Drake, Coronation, Silver Stick and Kobi.

Now More Solid. Puroto, the sister to Martara, is moving along welt at Awapuni, and should be suited by the track conditions at the Wanganui meeting. Puroto, who won three times in four starts in tho middle of last season, has built up considerably and is now a much more solid mare than formerly.

Te Hero Forward. Te Hero, tho brilliant Heroic-Prodice colt who went wrong on the eve of tho big Trentham meeting in the middle of last season, is to be given a run on the opening day at Avondale to smarten him up for the Guineas on tho following day. Ho is well forward, but has had insufficient fast work. His Chief Mission. According to reports, the chief mission of Siegmund this spring will be tho New Zealand Cup, to be run at Riccarton in November. He was a winner on six occasions last season, over distances ranging from seven furlongs to one mile and a quarter. By Siegfried from tho Limond marc Lilimund, the breeding of Siegmund suggests that he should be equal to running out a two-milo journey. Has Wintered Well. The Lord Quex three-year-old Fidelis has come through the .winter in a satisfactory manner and is well forward for events ahead. He was a winner over five

furlongs at Ellerslie last December, but the field to him was not a strong one, and he was unplaced in his four subsequent starts. Fidelis will probably have his first outing this' season at the Avondale meeting next month. Trial Satisfactory. The Te Rapa-trained Mangukaha has been entered for' both hurdle events at the Wanganui meeting. . This mare had her first trial as a hurdler at the Matamata meeting last month, when she finished close up behind the placed horses. She jumped fairly well for a beginner, and if she has made any improvement since then she wii) keep the opposition busy in her engagements at Wanganui. A First-Class Jumper. If Flower Bag goes to the post in the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Cup it will be his first appearance under colours since he ran third to En Tour in the Pakuranga Hunt Cup at Ellerslie two years ago. Flower Bag was one of the most impressive hunters produced in the past five years, and at his first start he won the Pakuranga Hunt Cup and tho Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Cup. Lameness has been against him, but he is a first-class jumper. Next as Hurdler. Brown Lap was in excellent order when he contested the Jellicoe Handicap at Ellerslie last week, but after being up handy in the first quarter he was squeezed on the rails and was sent right back. Ho was schooled over hurdles at headquarters this week and shaped very promisingly, and he will probably bo seen out in his new role at Avondale next month. In the meantime he has returned to Tauranga in company with Jayola. Team For Wanganui. The Trentham trainer T. R. George has rceonimissioned Boomerang, Alunga, Galteemore and Free Gold, but his team to race at Wanganui probably will be confined to Trebor, Drachma and Beau Vite. The latter is the Beau Pero —Dominant colt for whom Mr Ralph Stewart paid SOOgns at the Trentham sales in January. He is a muscular colt, but is not very forward. Lady Drake, the other Beau Pero two-year-old in George’s stable, has been suffering from a cold. Trebor is a likely member of the team to show early form. In his races in tho autumn ho indicated that he possessed stamina. Drachma showed a little form as a two-ycar-old last autumn. He is by Iliad and is on tho small. side, but was given plenty of time to develop. Novices Show Speed.

Two maidens who drew attention to their future prospects by finishing closo up in their respective divisions in the Sylvia Park Handicap at the Pakuranga Huntmeeting were Oriental Bay and Gold Petal. Oriental Bay had only started once previously and is likely to derive a good deo,l of benefit from the race. When properly seasoned this three-year-old should more than pay his way. Gold Petal began very smartly in the first division and, displaying abundance of speed, led the field into the straight. However, he weakened slightly over the last furlong, but was by no means disgraced. Gold Petal 16 trained by C. Morse at Takanini and is a five-year-old gelding by Oration from Mystical .Rose, a daughter of Quin Abbey.
