PLAY IN FOURSOMES.

GOLF IN AUSTRALIA. SYDNEY, Aug. 26. Playing very consistent golf, Miss Sydney-Jones and Miss V. Ebert won the Australian women’s foursomes championship to-day. Strong New Zealand combinations, comprising Mrs Fullerton-Smith and Miss P. Helean and Miss J. Horwell and Miss Fleming played below form. Miss Sydney-Jones and Miss Ebert had scores of 81 and S 5 (166). Mrs Fullerton-Smith and Miss Helean, with 82 and 87 (169), were runners-up. Miss Horwell and Miss Fleming, with 84 and 87 (171), were fifth. Other New Zealanders’ scores were as follow: Miss Ulston and Miss Crowe, 84—89; Miss Williams and Miss Crombie, 89—87 ; Miss Hornabrook and Miss Bell, 86—91; Miss McRae and Miss Sale, 90—95; Miss Rutherford and Miss Cameron, 94—94. Mrs Fullerton-Smith and Miss Helean, after a birdie three at the' first hole in the morning round, took four putts at the second, and thereafter putted without confidence and were otherwise unsteady. In the afternoon round Miss Helean was completely out of touch, slicing her woods and irqns and generally giving Mrs FullertonSmith poor support. Miss Fleming and Miss Horwell began badly in the first round, being out in 43, seven over par, but they improved coming home to be in third position. Their afternoon round was marred by very weak putting. Miss Fleming, who hitherto has been brilliant, on the greens, missed several putts of two feet and less. The New Zealander, Miss Ulston. and the 17-year-old Miss Crowe, of Sydney, playing with a 10 handicap, won the 18 holes stroke handicap, played in conjunction with the first round of the championship with a net score of 74. Miss Rutherford, who was granted permission to play in waterproof slacks on Monday because of the pouring rain, created a surprise bv appearing similarly dressed to-day when brilliant sunshine prevailed.
