IMPROVED YOUNG PACER. RECORD OF VANORA. (By “Square-Gaiter.”) Vanora, who is engaged in. tho Massey Memorial Handicap at tho Auckland meeting to-morrow, is one of the most improved young pacers in the north, and his last eight starts have yielded four firsts, a second, and two thirds. Ho came' on a groat deal last season and is now on the way to much better company. In tho early stages of his career he was a difficult liorso to condition, but patience and care have brought about a big improvement in this respect, and he is now a ready-made pacer.

Has a Reputation. ,Chudic, who is on the limit in tho Orakoi Handicap, will bo having his first run at Auckland to-morrow. Last season he won two races in the South Island, where he has a good reputation. Return of Swordsman.

Swordsman, who has bad a. light season ac the stud, is to reappear in the Royal Oak Handicap at Auckland. He is speedy, but: not reliable because of a tendency to mix his gait. A Strong Pair. Crocus, who won five races over 1) miles last season and lias registered 3.17 3-5 on two occasions, will be one of the F. J. Smith bracket in the August Handicap at the Auckland meeting to-morrow. Sho has proved her ability to haridlo heavy tracks, and no matter what the going is on this occasion she will only need to make a reasonably good beginning to take a power of beating. A ,good second string is Nervic’s Last, who is the Dominion’s champion froe-legged pacer. His best time over the distance is 3min 15 l-ssec, and although on 48yds is sure to bo in the firing line; in fact what beats the Takanini representatives should be entitled to the stake.

Reported a Top-Notcher. Van Derby, the Australian bred horse who is engaged in the Grey Lynn Handiacap at Auckland, lias done an exceptionally good preparation. He is stated to be a top-notcher. Pacer For North.

Navy Blue, formerly quartered at Addington, has been acquired by a northern patron. Though a good beginner and capable pacer, sho is now on bard marks over nearly all distances.

Toorak is Reliable. Toorak, who ran second twice in twomile events at the recent Addington meeting, showed that he is a reliable and capable pacer who. will win faces over all distances this season. For liis efforts his owner collected £2OO. He is a good-look-ing fivo-year-old horse by Wrack from Sundock and was bred in Southland. He was purchased by 'the Dunedin sportsman. Mr J.
