WELLINGTON RACING CLUB.
SUCCESSFUL YEAR REVIEWED. The report to be presented -at the annual meeting of the Wellington Racing I Club states, inter alia: — “Favoured with fine weather for its meetings and excellent support from owners and the public, the club has enjoyed a most successful season, and members are to be congratulated upon the result of the year’s operations. Tho amount distributed in stakes throughout the year was £37,260, Government taxation being £54,473 2s 4d. The profit and loss account discloses a not profit of £2837 7s Bd, after provision has been made for the depreciation of assets to the extent of £BSOO.
“The racecourse grounds have been maintained in good order. The stewards have endeavoured to give patrons every consideration, two improvements worthy of note being the introduction of a lounge for tho use of members, and the sealing of the Leger enclosure. During the year Mr C. H. Mitchell was appointed honorary consulting architect, and has rendered very useful and valuable service to tho club in that capacity. “Tho stewards record with regret the death of Dr H. A H. Gilmer (steward of tho club), and the following members: Dr W. J. H. Ilislop, Messrs W. Barton. A. de B. Brandon, G. P. H. Davidson, J. Dealy, F. Dyer, J. G. Helyar, E. H. Lidale, H. H. Mirams, E. L. Mowbray, and A. S. Mac Shane. Consequent upon tho death of Dr Gilmer, Mr W. A. lorns was appointed to fill the vacancy thus created. The following office-bearers retire in accordance with the rules, and are eligible for re-election: President, Mr E. L. Riddiford; vice-president, Mr C. W. Tringham; stewards, Messrs J. C. Crawford, W. Higgins, W. A. lorns, and Neil McLean; auditors, Messrs O. G. Kember and G. B. Macmorran. .“The stewards also record with deep roo-rot the death early in August of Mr D. M. Findlay, a steward of many years standing. There are five vacancies thus occasioned for which the four retiring stewards are eligible.”'
