• SUCCESS OF LOCAL DANCERS. Awards made yesterday at the an nual festival of the Wellington Competitions Society, which are of local and’district interest, were as follow: Boys’ song, under 12 years, own selection (Earle Andrews, highly commended, Song in character, 7-9 years, own selection: Dawn Olsen, highly commended. Highland fling, under 9 years: Nancye Conway (Longburn), very highly commended. Irish red, under 16 years, teams of four: June Scott’s Studio, very highly commended. Jig, 12-16 years: Dorothy McLean, highly commended. Dance duo, 12-16 years: Peggy Wilson and Joy Newson, commended. Toe dance, 16 years and over: Miss Lorraine Major, 77 points, 3; Miss Alice Johnson, very highly commended. A special grand .opera contest is bein a- held in conjunction with the festival. Among those who will sing this evening will be' Mr C. Shcrriffij (Longburn), “So Pagliacci Non Son”; Mr Adrian Rowe (Rongotea), “Prologue to Pagliacci” ; Miss Margaret D. Feist (Palmerston North), “0 Mio Fernando”; and Miss Isabelle M. Graham' i (Woodville), “Indian Bell Song.”
