CARS IN COLLISION
BOTH BADLY DAMAGED. EIRE ALARM CAUSED. Though neither driver was injured, two late model motor-cars were extensively damaged in a collision which occurred shortly before 10 a.m. to-day at the intersection of Featherston and Heretaunga Streets. Dr. J. S. Monro was proceeding down Heretaunga Street from the direction of the Hospital, and Mr J. F. Donovan, a traveller, of Palmerston North, was driving along Featherston Street in a westerly direction when the vehicles mel close to the centre of the intersection. The damage to Dr. Monro’s car wr, confined entirely to the front, the ra? iator being smashed in, both lights shattered, and the bumper badly. twisted. It escaped more lightly than the other car, a heavier vehicle, which had its bodywork crumpled and severely damaged through two separate impacts. Considerable damage was dene to the panelling and mudguard adjacent to the rear of the right side, wheel on the side where the collision occurred, but the car suffered much more severely through skidding or swinging into a heavy telegraph post immediately after the first impact. When the car struck the post the the latter was moved six inches and the fire alarm circuit on it was broken, bringing out the Fire Brigade. The side of the ear which hit. the post was the opposite to that where the first damage occurred, and it made a huge indentation in the rear of the bodywork, which was severely twisted. Both vehicles finished up close to the post,' and at an angle back to hack. The noise of the crash brought many residents to the scene.
