PITIFUL SCENES.

Austrian Refugees. , PRAGUE, Aug. 5. Cold and hungry, parties of refugees from Austria, including children and aged women, are wandering in the forests fringing the Austro-Czech frontier. For a week past there have been pitiful scenes every night at Brno, a Czech town near the border. Driven from Austria, refugees -have been streaming in, only to be arrested and taken back to the border. Under cover of night,' they have been escorted back- by Czech border guards. German officials, however, have consistently refused to readmit the refugees. There was no solution except to allow the penniless wanderers to slink into the wilderness in Czech territory. The police chief at Brno has announced that the temporary permits to stay in Czechoslovakia will bo cancelled next Monday. About 400 who fled from Austria when the Germans annexed that country will be affected.
