MUNICIPAL BAND.

CONTEST COMMITTEES. The genera] committee of the Feilding Municipal Band met on Tuesday, Mr T. Collins presiding. Also present were Messrs P. P. Stevens, F. S. Collier, W. Bould, R. Burns,. W. H. Clayton, A. J. Wood. G. Wilkinson, H. Kent, A. E. Garlick, P. G.'Guy and the secretary (Mr C. H. Tate). Mr Collins, reported that he and the secretary had attended a meeting of delegates of district brass hands, and the outcome had been the formation of a Manawatu and Districts Brass Bands’ Association, the first contest to be held in Feilding in October. The Brass Bands’ Association wrote stating that Labour Day had been awarded to the Manawatu association for a contest. Mr J. J. Drew would not. be available to act as judge, but Mr T. Goodall would be available. The action of the delegates in assisting to form an association was confirmed by the committee. It was decided to send a letter to Dr F. Cameron, thanking him for his services and interest in the band over a lengthy period. It was stated that the band would assist the Salvation Army Band in connection with its jubilee celebrations. The chairman said that last Sunday’s concert had been one of the best performances he had heard for very many years. The conductor (Mr J. Fleetwood), had worked wonders, and Mr Collins felt that all members would agree on that point. Matters in connection with the onedav contest were discussed and the following committees were appointed : Executive, Messrs Collins, Tate and Garlick; transport, Messrs Wood and Bould; publicity, Messrs Clayton, Stevens and McCall; housing and halls, Mr Guy; supervisor, Mr Stevens; assistant .supervisor, Mr Clayton: finance, executive members; medals. Messrs Garlick and Fleetwood ; musical judge, Mr Goodall; military judges, officers of the Defence Department at Palmerston North; judge of instruments, Mr A. Harford; timekeepers, Messrs A. C. McCorkindale and H- Smithers; photographer, Mr W. Bray; secretary, Mr Tate; gatekeeper, Mr Kent; doorkeeper, . Mr Kent; catering, ladies’ committee; programme, executive. The secretary reported that the finances had been aided somewhat by the payment of half the Borough Council subsidy of £25.
