The August meeting of the Porewa Women’s Institute was presided over by Miss Cockburn. The president welcomed Mrs Shanks, president of Wanganui Federation, and four other Wanganui visitors. Mrs Shanks gave a report of the remits dealt with at the Dominion conference. Mrs Garner gave

a demonstration of floral work. The competition, a tumbler of yellow flowers, was won \by Mrs Friedrich, Miss Whalle being second and Miss Carpenter third. The darning competition was won by Mrs Friedrich, Miss Carpenter being second and Miss Cockburn third. The best bloom award went to Mrs Morrison, Mrs Clarke and Mrs Carpenter.
