UNIVERSITY STUDENTS.

GATHERINGS IN '.HE CITY. Grouped with the inter-Island University Rugby match, to be played on Saturday, are a number of university student activities, two being of major interest to the Massey College student body. The Joynt Scroll debate, a feature of the year’s activities, which is regarded with no little importance, is to be staged at Massey College for the first time, and there will also be a special general meeting of the New Zealand University Students’ Association. Members of the football teams, delegates to the Students’ Association meeting and members of the debating teams will be accorded a civic reception to-morrow afternoon, and the first debate will follow at 4 p.m. at the Massey College assembly hall, the remainder commencing at .8 o’clock. The judges will be Messrs M. H. Oram, J. Murray and Rev. J. Hubbard; all of Palmerston North.

The debating teams will be as follow :—Auckland College: Miss 1). Fowler and Mr P. Day. ; Massey College : Messrs E. D. Bamford, and D. M. Smith. Canterbury ■'College: Messrs E. Hurst and J. S. Eumb'old. Victoria College and Otago University will also enter teams, the former sending two. The delegates to the New Zealand University Students’ Association meeting will be :—Auckland- College : Miss S. Patterson. Massey College: Messrs A. Stewart, A. I. Guild and G. H. Terry. Victoria College: Miss H. Maysmor, Messrs J. B. Aimers and E. W. Edgley. Canterbury College: Misses M. Mullan and M. Mules and, Mr E. Hurst., Otago University: Messrs ,G. F. All and E. W. Munro. In addition to these delegates the president (Mr P. Blair, of Auckland) and the chairman (Mr E. S. C. Agar), secre tary (Mr- •F, D.- Christensen)- and treasurer (Mr D. M. Hatherly), of the Wellington committee, are to attend. Most of the visitors will arrive on Friday and will be billeted, in the city, a few staying at Massey College. Apart from the debating contest, there will be a dance to entertain the representatives of the other colleges at Massey College and on Sunday the footballers and delegates are to visit the college, where they will be the guests at afternoon tea. Following the football match at the Showgrounds there will be a dinner at which the visiting players will be present. 1
