ROYAL WELCOME.

HUNGARIAN REGENT IN BERLIN. COMMENT ON AGREEMENT. BERLIN, Aug. 24. On his arrival from Hamburg this afternoon Admiral Horthy (Regent of Hungary) found the five-mile triumphal route to the Imperial castle brilliantly decorated in all the grandeur that greeted Signor Mussolini, plus 50,000 square yards of new Hungarian flags on the grandstand, which will accommodate 10,000 at the Tiergarten from which Admiral Horthy and Herr Hitler to-morrow will take the salute at the parade of the flower of the German Army. Admiral Horthy will stav at the late President Hindenburg’s palace. The political spokesman is eager to emphasise that the Little _ Entente’s agreement with Hungary in nowise threatens Hungarian-German friendship, although he suspects that some members of the Little Entente are trying to draw Hungary from the Nazi orbit. There is the greatest satisfaction that Hungary is released from her military limitations. The Berliner Tageblatt says: A dictated peace in Central Europe is not cracked but shattered. CLAIMS UPON CZECHS. HUNGARIAN MINORITY. LITTLE ENTENTE’S FEARS. LONDON, Aug. 17. Great importance, says a Berlin message, is attached to the visit of Admiral Horthy to the German capital, and much prominence is being given to Magyar (Hungarian) claims against Prague. There are about 750,000 Magyars in Czechoslovakia. It is reported that at a' meeting at Levencz, in Czechoslovakia, 150 Magyar delegates raised four points: “(1) Is Prague willing to recognise the .State as not exclusively Czechoslovak? . “(2) Does the Czech Government intend to place at the disposal of every national feroup the territory on which it lives, so that it can establish its .own administration? “(3) Is the Government willing - to draft a new constitution?

“(4) Is the Government prepared'to establish the nation’s neutrality, by the adoption of a new foreign policy ?” -The fourth point recalls the earlier insistence of Herr Konrad Henlein (leader of the Sudeten German Party) on Czechoslovakia’s abandonment of her alliances with France and Russia —a demand- which for the moment has been discreetly placed in cold storage. The Little Entente, which was formed for the specific object of protecting its members (Czechoslovakia, Rumania and Yugoslavia) against attack .by Hungary, is showing activity, in view of the fear that Hungary may enter the German orbit as a result of Admiral Horthy’s Berlin visit. NAZIS INDIGNANT. PACT’S DECEPTION IN HUNGARY. LONDON, Aug. 24.

The Daily Telegraph’s Budapest correspondent says that the Hungarian Nazis and the extreme Nationalists are indignant because they feel that the agreement between the Little Entente and Hungary precludes Hungary from participating in _ any eventual attack on Czechoslovakia from which they had hoped Hungary would be rewarded by sharing in the Republic s partition. . . Elsewhere the agreement is greeted with relief and satisfaction, though fears are expressed in some quarters about the consequences from Germany, where it will certainly be most unwelcome.
