(From Our Own Correspondent.) OPIJII, Aug. 23. Mr G. Simpson presided over an attendance of 26 members at a meeting of the Opiki branch of the Labour Party. Mr B. Roberts, M.P., addressed tho meeting .at length on the policy of tho Government and received an enthusiastic vote of thanks. Tho Post and Telegraph Department will soon be busy erecting a new line in tho district in order to connect up eight new subscribers. Measles, influenza and general heavy colds arc provaleift, few families escaping at least ono of tho maladies. Tho school holidays have occurred opportunely and will enable many small people to recover properly before tho final term of the year. . The hedges surrounding the Opiki School are being trimmed. Signs of spring are evident everywhere, with -lamb gambolling in the fields, fresh green pastures, and a wealth of bloom on wattle, pussy willows, and early flowering, shrubs. Members of the Women’s Institute are carefully tending bulbs and. other flowers in readiness for their spring show next month.
