' DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.

i Mr G. G. Taylor presided over the • monthly meeting of the Pahiatua District High School Committee, when a request for the provision of a sink and cupboard in the staff room was grant- : ed. The Education Board advised that the matter of remodelling the science room had been deferred. Votes of thanks for their excellent wbrk were accorded the ladies’ committee and the treasurer of the annual fancy dress party, which had been a great success, the net amount being practically the same as last year. The chairman remarked that further improvements and facilities could be considered. The board advised. vesting an amount of £35 odd from the Heckler scholarship fund to be held in trust, the income to provide a suitable annual trophy to the dux of the primary school for the year. Mrs Carrad and Mr Taylor were appointerl trustees It was decided to accept a tender for felling trees „and cutting up and splitting timber on the grounds. Messrs G. L. Chatwin and it. H.

The total number of names on the lain roll for the Pahiatiia electorate, icl uding the portions that were added y the adjustment of the boundaries, ; 9729, as compared with 8141 names n the main Parliamentary roll in 1935. or tlislt election there were 1641 ames on the supplementary roll, givig a total of 9872. PERSONAL. Mr W. A. Bond, formerly headmaster of the Mangatainoka School, is spending the vacation in Pahiatua. Mrs J. Cross is spending a few days in Masterton. Miss R. Williams, of Shannon, is the guest of Miss L. White. Mr J. Moran, of Wellington, is spending his holidays with his parents. Mr and Mrs P. J. Moran. Mr T. E. Douds, of the Wanganui East School, and formerly of the Konini School, •is visiting friends in the district. "

The death occurred at Island Bay, Wellington, of Mr J. McHalick, who was a resident of Pahiatua for many years. He leaves a widow and grownup family. The late Mr Frank Webb, of 'Wellington, was rf son of Mr and Mrs W. Webb, of Pahiatua. DeceUsed, who was aged 41 years, leaves a widow. Mr B. Vitsky, who was for 33 years a resident of the Akitio County, being engaged in farming at Rakounui, has recently been visiting Palmerston North and Pahiatua.

ODDFELLOWS’ LODGE. At the quarterly meeting of Loyal Mangatainoka Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., Bro. A. N. Cox, N.G., presided. A donation of 10s was made to the leper appeal fund. The lodge, endorsed the action of the secretary who, in reply to a letter from the district secretary asking the lodge to fix a date for the official visit of the District Grand Master, had invited the latter to suggest a date suitable. Bro. Cox extended a welcome to visitors from Loyal Masterton Lodge. P.G. Bro. L. Angelini gave a talk, his subject being “Radio.”
