There was an enthusiastic attendance of members at tlie annual meeting of the Winter Cricket Chib. Mr H. H. Duck presided. Prior to the meeting commencing Mr Gallichan mentioned the loss the school had sustained by the death of Mr R. S, Red ward, the chairman of the school’s management committee. Mr Gallichan said that the school and cricket generally could ill-afford to lose such a fine and popular enthusiast. The members present stood in silence as a mark of respect. The report and balance-sheet were adopted on the motion of the chairman. Speaking to the report the chairman said it was a very comprehensive one and spoke volumes for the work carried out by last year’s committee. He stated that the Winter School was something that should attract the young people who should attempt to learn ttie theory of the game before trying the practical side. He thought that the school was in a very healthy position and, now that the bulk of the necessary materials lvad been purchased, should go on to greater heights. Officers were elected as follow: Patron, Mr R. S. Abraham; president, Mr R. A. Brace; vice-presidents, twelve elected; chairman of management committee, Mr H. 11. Duck; sec* ret ary and treasurer, Mr J. Gallichan; auditor, Mr C. A. Waugh; committee, Messrs C. E. Hindis, N. E. Hassell, P. A. Lynch, F. G. O’Meeghan, D. B. Thompson, I. Williams, J. W. Marriott and F. S. C. Hubbard. Several recommendations were made to the new committee and those present were very optimistic about the future of the school. Prior to the meeting closing a few general items were discussed and one or two suggestions for the coming season were considered. At a subsequent committee meeting Messrs Duck, Gallichan and Hassell were appointed a sub-committee to pass accounts for payment. Mr Hassell was appointed assistant-secretary. It was decided to commence this season’s activities early in August. The practice nights were discussed and it was decided to bold practices every Tuesday and Thursday through, the months of August and September. Mr Hassell thought that schoolboys should be charged a small subscription and, on his motion, it was decided to fix this at 2s for the season. It was thought that one net should be allotted to learners and beginners, and the other one to advanced players, and it was decided to adopt this policy. Various matters in reference to the erection of the nets, etc., were discussed, and several purchases made by the secretary were approved.
