UNEMPLOYED RIOTERS.
BRITISH COLUMBIA’S POSITION. Vancouver, J,me 22 - The situation caused by the rebellious unemployed has beeome tense, and three cities arc divided sharply into two camps. As a result of public, subscriptions, 200 of the men were dispatched to Nanaimo and 100 to Victoria, on Vancouver Island. The crux of the situation is whether 1700 non-British Columbians shall be aided here or compelled to return to their homes in the east. The men are strongly supported by thousands of members of the Radically-inclined Canadian Commomvealth Federation Party and the Communist Party* and some trade unions, which demand the resignation of the Provincial Government.
Buildings and stores in the capital city, Victoria, .are heavily guarded, a.nd also stores in Vancouver and Nanaimo. The Premier (Mr T. D. Pattullo) is firmly declining all the demands of the unemployed. The Federal Minister of Labour (Mr N. M. Rogers) states that the Government will not change its policv of not giving the men relief until they go home. '
