“JOURNEY’S END.”
PALMERSTON NORTH SEASON. Written around incidents in the Great War the play “Journey’s End” created tremendous enthusiasm when it was played in the Dominion by a professional company some time after its initial success in England. It depicts with terrifying realism the strain and stress of those hectic years and the wonderful spirit, displayed by the men who led the armies in the field—not the generals but the company officers. The Palmerston North Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society, which is staging “Journey’s End” at the Opera House on July 7, 8 and 9, is to be congratulated on its very topical choice. This play made its author, R. C. Shorriff, faim ous almost overnight, and with the strongest male cast that has ever been assembled in Palmerston North the success of the season is assured. The notion lakes place in a dug-out in the front lines and the wliole atmosphere is reproduced ip rcrnarkahlo fashion. ;i -
