The known dead in the Central Anatolian earthquakes are 'SOO. Eighteen villages were totally destroyed and 22 partly destroyed. Fifty thousand panic-stricken persons are homeless. The Government is rushing relief to them. Vast areas were laid waste and there is indescribable devastation and chaos. Refugees describe deep fissures from which boiling water is spouting. The shocks are continuing, accompanied by terrific subterranean rumblings. A message published yesterday stated that sixteen villages were wiped out and over 250 killed in repeated earthquakes in Central Anatolia. Shocks occurred hourly throughout Tuesday.
