NAZIS IN DENMARK.

Under orders from Berlin the Nazis in North Schleswig 1 are extending 1 their activities to the dismay of the Danish authorities, who have at various times been confronted with German aspirations for the return of this province to the Reich. They have been encouraged by the events in Central Europe to become more truculent. Revolver shots were hied in Parliament last week when a debate was in progress on immigration laws to which the Nazis in Denmark object, and against which they have directed propaganda. The Minister for Justice has acted promptly by appointing a police commission to inquire into this subversive activity. Unrest on the borders ,of North Schleswig was predicted when the Austrian coup was staged by Germany. This territory was restored to Denmark as the result of the Versailles Treaty, a.plebiscite held in the spring of 1920 giving a majority in its favour. Two zones were created for the purpose of the vote, the northern and the southern. The former emphatically endorsed union with Denmark by 75,400 votes to 25,300, but in the south where voting took place .subsequently the German majority carried the day by 51,700 votes to 12,800. North Schleswig 1 was incorporated in Denmark in July of 1920, but Germany lias not regarded the union with favour, and since the rise of Hitlerism lias been dominated with the desire to again see this part of Schleswig returned to the Reich. But Denmark is equally insistent —and in this she has justice on her side —that the decision given under the supervision of an international commission should not be disturbed. That her authorities should be urged to take general measures'" against the Nazis is but natural, for in North Schleswig the voice of the majority decided that the province s future should be under Danish authority, just as the southern province elected to remain with Germany.
