CHAAIPION BEATEN. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 20. Equalling his provincial record of 56 3-ssec, D. H. Symes, the Canterbury 100 yards title-holder, beat the British champion and Olympic and Empire Games representative, Norman AA’ainwriglit, by the barest of margins in the 100 yards match race at the tepid baths to-night. A 220 yards match between AVainwright and L. Newell, Canterbury and New Zealand champion over this distance, was won by 12 yards by AVainwright, the time, 2min 27 3-oscc.' being slightly slower than Newell’s provincial record.
