OBITUARY.

MR A. B. FTLSON YOUNG. LONDON, April 19. 'l’he death has occurred of the author, Mr A. B. Filson Young, who had been adviser on programmes to the 8.8. C. since 1926. Mr Young was the special correspondent of the Manchester Guardian _ in the South African War. He was assistant editor of the Pilot from 1901 to 1903, literary editor of the Daily Mail from 1903 to 1904, and editor of the Outlook in 1904. On the outbreak of the European War he assisted in organising the Australian Hospital, to which he acted as lion, secretary. He accompanied it with the British Expeditionary Force to France. In October. 1914, he returned and received a commission as lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. Later he joined the staff of Vice-Admiral Sir David Beatty on H.M.S. Lion, and the staff of H.M.S. Victory, Portsmouth. Tn 1916-17 he was war correspondent with the British Expeditionarv Force. He was special correspondent of" the Times in Spain and Portugal from 1917 to 1919, and later he became editor of the Saturday Review. His publications include: Trials of Crippen. the Seddons, Bywaters and Thompson, and Armstrong in the Notable Trials Series, “The Relief of Mafeking,” “A Volunteer Brigade,” “Mastersingers,” a contribution to Encyclopaedia Britannica.” “Ireland at the Cross Roads.” “The Complete Motorist,” “The Sands of Pleasure,” “The Happy Motorist,” and “Growing Wings” (1936).
