EXTRA SENTENCE.
PRISON ESCAPEE PUNISHED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 21. Leslie Eric Smith, aged 24, a mechanic, was sentenced to an additional term of fourteen days in the Magistrate’s Court to-day on a charge of escaping from custody. The police stated that Smith, in company with four other prisoners, was taken to the hospital for treatment, and escaped. He was arrested one and a half hours later? In evidence, Smith said he went to a friend’s house to obtain money to pay the fine for the non-payment of which he was imprisoned. The Magistrate (Air Colliding) said the prison authorities would have given him' every opportunity to obtain the money. ■
