OVERSEAS COUNTRIES.

ITEMS OF INTEREST. Mr L. J. Wild’s brief address to the committee of the Jfeilding A. and _ P. Association last evening was on similar lines to his remarks given at Iviwitea recently. He reiterated his previous statement that Hngland had reduced her live stock disease to tan infinitesimal percentage, a.nd he suggested that New Zealand should make a similar effort. “Disease costs New Zealand millions of pounds and research work would not cost anything like that amount,” said Mr Wild. Referring to tree planting and conservation of lorcsts, Mr Wild said that Norway and Sweden were countries which used enormous amounts of timber for the manufacture of paper pulp and other purposes, and were able to conserve their timberland. In fact, the timber used in industry was kept below the normal growth of the forests due to replacements. Mr AVild suggested that .the Cheltenham, Kimbolton, Feilding, Palmerston . North main highways could be planted with avenues of trees. Mr AVild also made reference to I A. and P. Association Shows in other I countries, and said that he had 6een I breeds of sheep unknown in New Zealand. He suggested that in the future a market for Southdown stud sheep might be established in California, but from inquiries made bv him there appeared little hope of the Romney breed being inquired for. On the motion of the president (Air N. J. Short) Mr AVild was accorded a. hearty vote of thanks for his interesting remarks.
