The engineer said he had considered the advisability of doing it but that lie was waiting until the department bad finished the ramp. Representing 30 lvumeroa settlers, Mr P. Poulton waited on the council with the view of securing the Council’s support for a proposal that the Ota who road be opened up to give a drect route from Kumeroa to Dannevike. He stated that he had been m communication with the Minister of Public Works and that the reply had been favourable. Mr Poulton asked that the Council recommend the work and he considered that if approval was given there was a chance that the work would be placed upon the estimates. , The chairman explained that the first thing the Council wanted to know was whether the Dannevirke County Council would attend to their end of the road. Mr Poulton said he was perfectly sure that Dannevirke would co-operate. The chairman observed that Dannevirke would have no objection but he thought there was a catch in the Minister’s letter in that the 30 signatories to the petit'on might be required ’to form themselves into 1 a special rating area. Mr Poulton: It is not a big work. We do not expect the Dannevirke County to find any money and we do not want the special rating area, but we do want tlie County’s support. It was eventually decided that the engineers of the two Councils should confer on the question and bring down, a report.
