HOSPITAL APPOINTEES.
TAVO DIRECTORS FOR AUCKLAND. ; Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 1. The Auckland, Hospital Board toniglit made appointments to the new positions of director of surgery and director of medicine at the Auckland Hospital. The appointees are: Surgery, Mr John Maxwell Clarke, M. 8., Ch.M. (N.Z.), F.R.C.S. (Eng.), F.R.C.S. (Australasia), of New Plymouth; medicine, Dr Charles Ritchie Burns, M.D. (N.Z.), M.R.C.P., of Dunedin. There were eight applications for the surgical post and six for the medical. Both were offered to New Zealand practitioners only. The salaries are £ISOO, rising to £2OOO. The appointments were those recommended by the select advisory committee sitting at AA ellington and have been approved by the Health Department. Air Clarke was medical superintendent and surgeon to New Plymouth Hospital from 1926 to 1930 and since then consulting surgeon to the hospital. Dr Burns, who is temporarily studynig in London, has been consulting phys'eian to Dunedin Hospital and clinical lecturer to Otago University since 1928.
