Mr E. P. Kerry 7, who adjudicated in the New Zealand Brass Bands Association’s contest at Palmerston North, left for Sydney' last evening. Mr Harald Flett, of the Orient Company’s office in Sydney, has been appointed passenger superintendent for the Orient Line in Australia and New Zealand, with headquarters in Svdney. The condition of Mr Oliver Stanley (President of the Board of Trade), who is suffering from acute inflammation is reported to be very satisfactory, states a British Official Wireless message. The friends of Dir W. B. Tennent will regret to learn that he is slightly indisposed. At a meeting of the Terrace End School Committee last evening it was decided to forward him a letter of sympathy. Professor William Bragg, director of the National Physical Laboratory, and son of the eminent scientist Sir William Bragg, has been elected to succeed Lord Rutherford as Cavendish Professor in experimental physics at Canibridge University, according to a British Official Wireless message.

Stating that he would be leaving this district in a few weeks’ time, Mr M. N. Wallace forwarded his resignation to the meeting, last evening, of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce. Mr Wallace stated that his service on the council of the chamber had been a great pleasure, and he appreciated the many courtesies that had been extended to him by members. He wished the chamber every possible success. On the proposal of the president (Mr A. J. Graham), it was decided to forward Mr Wallace an expression of the chamber’s best wishes for liis future success, the resignation being accepted with regret. Mr Graham said Mr Wallace had been a valuable member of the council.

Following a short illness, the death occurred in the Wanganui Hospital on Sunday of Mr Percy Stanley Dustin. Mr Dustin was the fourth son of the late Mr W. S. Dustin, and Mrs C. Dustin, and was in his 47t,1i year. In his young days Mr Dustin was an enthusiastic oarsman. He was a member of the Union Boat Club, Wanganui, and represented the club at a number of regattas. About three, years ago Mr Dustin was awarded a Royal Humane Society certificate for saving the life of a young girl who fell overboard from a launch on the Wanganui River. This is the second bereavement sustained by the firm of Dustin's, Ltd., in the space of a few months, as the late Mr David Dustin, a' director of the firm, passed away last December.
