INFORMATION SOUGHT.
MEMBERS’ QUESTIONS. PENSIONS FOR ORPHANSIn the House of Representatives this afternoon three members gave notice of Ministerial questions. The matters involved concerned provision for orphans where the mother predeceases the father, weather forecasts for farmers and political party funds. Mr R. A. Wright gave notice to ask if the Minister of Pensions (Hon.. W. E. Parry) was aware that- no pensions were allowed to orphans where the mother predeceased the father and on the death of the latter the children were left without support. He asked if it was proposed to rectify the anomalv. WEATHER FORECASTS FOR FARMERS. Mr E. L. Cullen gave notice to ask the Minister of Scientific and Industrial Research, Hon. D. G. Sullivan, if he would investigate the methods used by the Meteorological Department in compiling weather forecasts, and whether it would be possible to give farmers more immediate and accurate forecasts in future. He mentioned that the weather forecasts had given no warning of the recent disastrous floods in the Wairoa and Hawke’s Bay districts. PARTY FUNDS. Rev. A. H. Nordmeyer gave notice to ask the Prime Minister (Mr Savage) whether, in view of the statement recently made by the Leader of the Opposition (Hon. A. Hamilton) concerning campaign funds held by the Labour and National Parties, and in order that the public might know the true position, the Government would introduce legislation making it compulsory for political parties to publish from time to time the amounts held by the party organisations, together with the source from which these funds were derived.
