TORPEDOES ABOLISHED.
BRITISH CAPITAL SHIPS. LONDON, March 1. Torpedoes will be abolished as part of the armament of British capital ships, says the Daily Telegraph. It is a reform that has long been uiged by naval officers, who regarded the torpedo as a useless encumbrance. Torpedoes, however, are still eonsidered the most potent weapon foi smaller craft. The newest destroyers have 10 tubes. The" Daily Telegraph says that _ a two-pounder pompom capable of firing 100 rounds a minute has been produced to answer the menance of swiftly-div-ing aircraft. It is highly mobile and is manned by a crew of five.
