JAPANESE OFFENSIVE. •800-CHINESE DEAD. OPERATIONS NEAR WUHU. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received February 28, 9.45 a.m. TOKIO, Feb. 27. The Doniei News Agency reports that a surprise attack by the Japanese, following their landing from Wuhu Lake, resulted in 800 Chinese being annihilated in the mountainous area of Shanshanchcn. Another unit has driven the Chinese from Shikiehen, nine miles south of Wuhu. The operations have prepared the way for the occupation of Shanshanclien.
