FAREWELL PARTIES.

MR A. SAUNDERS HONOURED. On Friday evening, February 25th, the home of Mr Alex. Saunders presented a gay scene, the occasion being a farewell party tendered to Mr Saunders by his neighbours . and friends. The large drawing-room had been gaily decorated, and the guests overflowed on to the verandah. Mrs Emil Wi6chnowsky acted as hostess, assisted by Mrs D. Gore and Mrs Eric Bowler. Mr John Hight was M.C. Every one was in a very happy mood and a jolly time was spent in community singing in which all heartily joined in the real good old fashioned way. Dancing and games were also indulged in. A number of bogus telegrams from “in the news” caused a great deal of fun and laughter. The travelling parcels competition was won by Mr Eric Harrisson and Miss Andrews. A duet by Mrs Wischnowsky and Mr Saunders demanded an encore, also a duet by Miss Joy Hallman and Mrs Wischnowsky was very delightfully rendered. At a suitable interval Mr Harrisson referred to the fact that Mr Saunders, who had sold his farm and is leaving the district, would be very greatly missed by his neighbours, who one and all when they needed a helping hand, a horse or an implement had only to ask Mr Saunders to be sure of his help. There was no doubt he would be sadly missed. It was with mixed feelings of pleasure and sadness lie wished to present Mr Saunders on behalf of his neighbours with a very handsome travelling rug, with their heartfelt best wishes for his future prosperity. Also, on behalf of the Farmers’ Union, it gave him great pleasure to present Mr Saunders with a writer’s companion. In concluding, he wished Mr Saunders every success in his new venture. Mr Gretton endorsed the remarks made by Mr Harrison. Musical honours were accorded to Mr Saunders with three rousing cheers, Mr Saunders suitably replied, thanking all for their_ kindness and good wishes. A delightful supper was served by Mrs Peach, Gore and Bowler, and a jolly evening was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” The music for dancing was supplied bv Miss Freda Greatorex, Mr J. L. Nash and Mrs Wischnowsky. Mr Nash played the accompaniments. Apologies were received from Mr and Mrs McMahon, Mr and Mrs Claude Spiers (Shannon). Mr J. Eames . Mr W. Bowes (Foxton) and Mr Ross (Feeding). Among those present were: Mr and Mrs Oscar Andrews, Mr and Mrs Jagger (Foxton), Mr and Mrs J. L. Miss E. A. James, of Palmerston North, who leaves next week tor a trip overseas, was entertained at a farewell bridge party recently, at which the hostesses were Misses Young, of Rangitane Street. Those present were members of a private bridge club to which Miss James _ belongs. The guest wore a smart. Burgundy suit, Miss Young choosing egg-shell blue silk and Miss J. Young navy satin with touches of pink. Supper was served in rooms attractively decorated with dahlias and belladonna At" a suitable interval Mrs Mundy, on behalf of those present, presented Miss James with a cruise diary, accompanied by good wishes for a happy and successful journey.
