CARNARVON

(From Our Own Correspondent,) CARNARVON, Feb. 24.

A field day of Glen Oroua and Carnarvon Pig Club members and other farmers interested, organised by Mr E, P. Nielson, group supervisor, took place this week. The first place of interest was the Longburn freezing works, whore they were shown the pig killing industry from the arrival in trucks to the cutting of rashers at the other end. Everything possible was done by Mr Elphick and his men to ensure everyone seeing < everything to the best advantage. After lunch in Palmerston North the party met again and were shown over the Massey College pig farm . by Messrs Denize and Robinson, of the Department of Agriculture. Of special interest- at iMosscy.. College were the Large White pigs housed in the Danish type of house. The pigs are under cover from weapons until time of slaughter. The party went to Mr D. E. Keillor’s pig farm at Linton, and from there to Mr Jenson’s Opiki farm, where Mr Denize formally welcomed the visitors and thanked the farmers whose-, properties they had visited. Mr S. Hunt, on behalf of Glen Oroua, and Mr H. M. Mansell, on behalf of Carnarvon, briefly thanked all who had contributed to the day’s enjoyment and instruction. A live weight pig judging competition organised by the Longburn works was won by Mr W. H. H. Foster, Glen Oroua.
