Hammond, president and vicepresident respectively of the New Zealand National Party, also attended. Before opening the meeting the chairman asked delegates to stand in silence for a minute as a mark of respect to those who lost their lives in the recent flood catastrophe in Hawke’s Bay. Congratulations were extended to the following selected candidates: Mr Kerr, Nelson; Mr E. B. Gordon, Rangitikei; Hon. J. G. Cobbe, Manawatu. Delegates reported on the progress which is being made in their respective electorates. The indications are that the Wellington division is in fine trim for the forthcoming political campaign. The conference extended its thanks to all the members of the Parliamentary section and' auxiliary speakers for the excellent work which they had done throughout the division since the last conference. The public meetings addressed by these speakers had been attended by large audiences and at all of them marked enthusiasm had been shown, it was reported.
