ADDINGTON SALE. A RECORD ENTRY. Per Press Association. CI-IRISTCHURCII, Feb. 23. Tiie entry at to-day’s Addington market was the largest of the season, consisting of about 35,000 head, of which about 26,000 were store lambs and breeding ewes. There was an casing tendency tor all classes of stock except fat lambs, which sold at above the export schedule. Store lambs.—The best pens of rape lambs sold at from 17s to 18s 6d; few specially good to 20s; Romney cross ewe lambs, to 24s 3d. Store sheep.—Most of the ewe entry were travelled and aged. Medium to good pens of two-tooths made from 30s to 325, best to 375; Chatham Island mixed-aged ewes, 27s 6d to 28s 6d; good four-year to 225, four and live-year ewes, 17s 6d to 20s; failing-mouth ewes, 14s to 16s 6d; a pen of Chatham Island .wether's, 27s 6d; lialfbreds, to 235. Fat sheep.—There was a general easing of about Is to Is 6d a head, except for export ewes, which nearly maintained recent values. Best wethers made from 29s to 345; good 27s to 28s 6d, medium 24s to 26s 6d, light down to 20s; best ewes, 19s to 235, a few tops to 28s, medium 17s 6d to 19s, export sorts 14s to 16s 6d. Fat cattle.—Mixed quality, except for a few outstanding pens. Values were down by 10s to 15s a head in the case of cows. Best beef made from 33s to 36s a 1001 b. a few tops to 37s 6d. The top price was £l9 7s 6d, good £l3 to £l4 15s, medium to good £ll 10s to £l2 ss; . good cows and heifers to £2 12s 6d, medium to good heifers £8 to £9 15s; inferior and ordinary, £5 to £6 30s. Fat pigs.—A small porker entry improved by 2s to 3s a head, making fr°m 6£d to 6|d a lb. Baconers sold at a slight firming a lb, values being from 6d to 6jd. JOIINSONVILLE VALUES. A small yarding of cattle and a large yarding of all classes of sheep were offered at the Johnsonville . 6ale. Very few heavy bullocks came forward, the yarding consisting chiefly of medium-weight bullocks with a few pens of light and unfinished sorts. Only fino quality cattle were wanted, with little demand for lightweight cattle and unfinished sorts. The demand foi COWS and heifers was keen with prices showing little alteration. The yarding of vealers and runners was of poor quality with little demand. LEVIN QUOTATIONS. LEVIN, Feb. 23. The weekly sale was held at the Levin yards yesterday, with extra large yardings in all sections; the sale was an excellent one for every class of stock. A largo consignment of lambs was entered on behalf of the Hannan Estate and these brought prices as follow: 400 ewe lambs, 235, 450 wether lambs 16s 6d, 73 wethers 13s 4d,. and 70 owe lambs 17s. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report a good yarding of ewes of all ages at the above fair, the quality, which usual, not being up to the standard ot the first fair. Nevertheless, several lines of good ewes were submitted, those meeting with spirited competition, low conditioned aged owes not meeting - with the best of sales. Practically a total clearance was effectod at auction, the bulk of tho offering being secured by Manawatu buy" ers. DISPERSAL SALE. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., in conjunction with the N.Z. Farmers’ Coop. Distributing Co., Ltd., report on the dispersal sale of Romney flock and plant on account of Mr D. J. Willis, Marton. The sale attracted a large number of breeders of Romney sheep from practically all districts from both the east and west coasts.. The flock was founded in 1927 from a consignment of 46 ewes from tho registered flock of J. 11. McLean and Co., Ltd., the principal sires used in the flock being purchased from the following wellknown Romney breeders: Messrs W. F. Jacob and Son, J. E. Hewitt, A. L. Wheeler, and 11. B. Johnston. Owing to the continued dry weather experienced in the Rangitikei district this summer it was apparent that Mr Willis could not bring the sheep forward in (he condition he would like to have done, nevertheless, taking these conditions into consideration, the sheep on the whole came forward in good, healthy order and attracted keen attention. Wo report a highly satisfactory sale at values in excess of the vendor's expectations. A full range of farming implements and plant also sold readily. STORTFORD LODGE. HASTINGS. Feb. 23. Record prices were made in the store cattle section at Stortford Lodge’ to-day. Values were admitted to be excessive by buyers, but exceptional growth following the recent rains loft them no alternative but to meet tho market, which was regarded as phenomenal and greatly exceeded expectations. Fat cattle showed a general rise of 20s a head and upward, butchers bidding strongly. Quality pens were few in "number, but brought strong competition from buyers, prices finishing in record levels. Owing to butchers bidding freely poorer quality pons made very dear buying. The store sheep market was sound, with lainb6 slightly easier than last week. Many good lines wero offered, wethers being the best buying of the day.
