PAHIATUA.

PAHIATUA, Feb. 22. At about 10 o’clock on Sunday night a collision occurred between cars driven by Mr J. Y. Crawford) of Pahiatua, and Mr Harold Clarkson, of Masterton, the accident taking place on the main Pahiatua-Masterton road. Both cars were fairly extensively aged. but the occupants had a miraculous escape. '"A:, The executive of the-; ..Southern Hawke’s Bay branch of the: N.Z.E.L has passed the following resolution: — “That the executive of the Southern Hawke’s Bay branch heartily supports the action of the Minister in increasing the allowance of floor space from 12 square feet per child to 20 square feet per child and agrees that this amelioration of conditions is in line with the modern needs of education and health and deprecates any attack upon the Minister for taking such action.”

A remarkable escape from injury was experienced by Joseph Sainsbury, a farm hand employed at Hatuma, when the; car he' was driving crashed into a telegraph pole about a mile* on the Gorge side of Woodville. The car was badly damaged. At the . quarterly and annual meeting ■of Loyal Mangatainoka Lodge, M.U., T.0.0.F., Sister M. Pryde, N.G., presided The secretary (P.G. Bro H. A. Biclc) read the annual balancesheet, which showed that all accounts were in a very-satisfactory condition. Nine members were instructed in the blue degree by L.M. Sister E. Harris. P.G. Bro. I. Rev. Hugh S. Leach, who was vicar of Pahiatua from 1902 to; 1907, arrived yesterdav for the jubilee celebrations. During his stay he will be the’ guest of Mr and Mrs G. Godfrey Taylor. Mr P.' Burge and his sister, Miss A. H. Burge'(former infant mistress at the Pahiatua District High School), of Wellington, are staying with Mrs W. Gilbert. Mangamutu. Mr and Mrs A. Mills have returned from a holiday at Rotorua. Mr C. R. Bagge, of Masterton, is the guest of Mrs C. Tredo, “Hillcrest,” Koriiiii.
