FIRE BRIGADES
INCREASED EFFICIENCY. Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 23. The standard of fire-fighting efficiency had increased greatly in recent years, commented Superintendent W. L. Wilson, of Auckland, when opening the annual meeting of the New Zealand Fire Brigades’ Officers and Members’ Institute. Mr R. Girling-Butcher, Inspector of Fire Brigades, said he considered the institute the most important , single activity of the United Eire Brigades’ Association. The papers read at the conference were typical of the standard now reached by the service. The technique of fire fighting had been developed to a stage where only one or two leads were used except for exceptional fires. Officers were elected as follow: President, Superintendent Wilson; vice-presidents, Superintendent A. Morrison, Messrs R. M. Price, A. Craig, H. E. Follas, A. J. Bennett and Superintendent C. A. Woolley; executive council, Superintenednts T. Anderson, P. Deere, A. Craig, J. W. Kane, C. W. Tyler and H. J. Price; treasurer, Secretary C. A. Osborne; secretary, Captain T. J. Watts; scientific and research committee, Superintendents Wilson, Woolley. Morrison, Messrs Craig and Follas. UNITED FIRE BRIGADES. Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 23. The conference of the United Fire Brigades’ Association of New Zealand concluded to-day. Officers elected were: President, Secretary D. L. Ferguson (Gisborne); senior vice-pre-sident, Fireman C- H. Carey (Patea); junior vice-president. Deputy-Super-intendent A. White (Greymouth); treasurer, Secretary C. A. Osborne (Onehunga); auditor, Mr O. P. Moller.
