NATIONAL CANDIDATE. MR G. A. MONK NOMINATED. The'National Party candidate for the Otaki electorate was selected last night at a meeting of the party s branch delegates in Otaki. Inere were 88 delegates present, and Mr John Barclay was in the chair. The three nominees were Messrs fc. Winlev, F. E. Trim, and G. A. Monk. Mr Winley withdrew before the selection was made and the result ot the ballot was that Mr Monk was selected as the candidate for the district. Mr Monk is a prominent figure m local body' administration, being the chairman of the Horowhenua County Council and the Horowhenua Electric Power Board, a member of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, and a member of the Board of Health. BAY oFISLANDS. MR W. GROUNDS TO STAND. Per Press Association. WHANGAREI, Feb. 23. Mr W Grounds lias announced that he will contest the Bay of Islands seat as an Independent candidate at the general election. . Mr Grounds is a past chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Board and the North Auckland Dairy Conference, and at present chairman of the Hokianga Dairy Company. At the last election he polled heavily as an Independent against M. Hon. J. G. Coates in Kaipara.
