OHAKEA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) OHAKEA, Feb. 21. Very popular residents of the district, Mr and Mrs A. C. Vile and family, were tendered a farewell evening in the Ohakea Hall by a large number of residents. Visitors were also present from surrounding districts and a pleasant evening was spent in dancing and cards. Mr D. Capstick expressed regret at losing such popular residents who had boon most willing to render assistance in furthering any worthy objects for the benefit of the district. Ho hoped they would bo happy and prosperous in their now home and asked them to accept a beautiful electric mixer as a token of the esteem of the residents. Mrs Vile was the recipient of a ( beautiful posy from Barbara Vile. Master Lindsay and Misses Pattie and Both Vile were also presented with gifts. Mr Vile thanked everyone for the gifts and expressed regret at having to leave many friends in the district. Winners at cards were Mrs S. Ingram and Mr L. Sadler. Musio for dancing was supplied by Mcsdamcs H. Redpath, B. J. Frccklington and Messrs H. McKinnon and Goode. Later, Mr G. Murray, who is also leaving the district, was presented with a gift. Mr F. 0. Bailey presided . over the monthly meeting of the Ohakea School Committee, Messrs H. Elldry, J. Cupstick, L. Sadler, and A. Hartley being present. The head teacher’s report disclosed a fall in the roll and intimated that during this month a modified curriculum had been pureued embracing lessons in first aid, swimming, and nature study. It was hoped to visit various factories shortly. It was decided to apply to the Education Board for tho provision of bicycle accommodation which had been promised last year. It was also decided to apply to the board for the laying ■ down of an _ asphalt playing and drill area. It was pointed out that under present conditions the work of the school in physical drill and games was seriously handicapped when rain turned tho clay playing area into a quagmire. Discussion on the _ possible .effect of the proposed new drain past the school took place and it wars decided to approach the authorities to ascertain their proposals and, if necessary, protest against anything detrimental to tho school’s interests. It was not considered that anything detrimental would be done, but it would be wise to watch developments. Mrs Riley and Mrs Binns, of Fremantle, who have been the guests of their aunt, Mrs Harris, have left for Auckland. Miss El fa Ellery has returned home from hospital.
